Body Proportions: They are longer than tall, with an ideal ratio of 10 to 8.5. They have a domed forehead, long muzzle, strong jaws, and a bushy tail that reaches the hock. Coat: They have a dense double coat with a thick undercoat, available in medium or long hair. Long-haired varieties are rarer and may be considered a fault in some breed standards. Colors: Common colors include tan/black and red/black, with black masks and body markings. Rare colors include sable, pure-black, pure-white, liver, silver, blue, and panda. All-white and blue variations are often disqualified in shows. Temperament: German Shepherds are intelligent, eager to learn, and protective. They are good watchdogs and excel in roles like police, guard, and search-and-rescue work. They can be overprotective if not well-socialized and may not be immediately friendly with strangers.
